Just a Couple of North Loop Nights

23 Jun

You know when I am having too much fun because it cuts into my blogging time, but I will catch you all up in no time. On Tuesday night Daniel and I decided to walk over to the Parlor’s last show to say goodbye. The special guest was the Riverboat Gamblers and it really was a wonderful punk rock show to send off  the Parlor in style. I think Daniel said it best with his comment, “walked home from the parlor for the last time, except this time I was soaked from head to toe with beer and punk rock”. The show was truly epic and I am so glad we went! I did ask the bartender who the Parlor’s landlord is and he said it is the dude who owns Hog Wild next door! Just sucks to think that one North Loop Business led to the closing of another one. You would think they would try to be neighborly and work things out. At least we still have the Parlor in Hyde Park!

We recovered from the  punk rock and on Wednesday decided to have a little date night before Daniel leaves for tour, which should be today if they can get the van fixed. We rode our bikes to Titaya’s and I even tried something different! Daniel got the Pad Thai and I got the Pad Kee Mao. They were both delicious! Titaya’s was surprisingly not packed, so maybe Wednesday at 8pm is the time to go. It seems like every time I drive by the place has a line out the door. We scarfed down our food and headed to Half Price Books to see if they had a book by this author I am getting into and if we could score any awesome records. I found my book, but we decided we didn’t need any of the music we found so we hopped on our bikes and rode home.

I know I have written about the Parlor, but  I don’t think I have featured Titaya’s or Half Price Books yet. Titaya’s simply put is the best Thai food in town and I know Half Price is not a local bookstore but it really is amazing. The selection is huge and it is always fun to go down there sell some stuff to buy a book or CD. I really like that the selection reflects our community since most of the items they sell were sold to Half Price by your neighbors and local Austinites!

Those are my two awesome North Loop Nights. It’s sad to think one of them won’t ever happen again. So long Parlor we will come visit you in Hyde Park.
