Karen Bites Dog

26 Sep

I know the Man Bites Dog on Burnet has been open awhile now, but I finally tried it on Friday night and it was amazing!

I went with the Danger Dog, which is a bacon wrapped deep-fried dog with jalapenos, queso fresco and danger sauce, on top. Daniel tried The Cuban, which is a pork sausage wrapped in ham and swiss cheese with relish and spicy brown mustard. Both dogs were delicious and beyond filling. The best part though was the pulled pork mac n’ cheese, which was a HUGE serving of just what it sounds like. The pulled pork was so tender and yummy and mixing that with macaroni and cheese plus they add a dollop of sour cream and top it with chives make it truly heavenly!

I really like the space too; it was really well designed with a bench along the south wall and a long tall table in the middle. The sun was down and it was starting to get nice outside, so we sat at one of the tables out front.

You might be thinking this sounds like that place Frank downtown and yes, they do both serve fun, interesting hot dog creations, but I can say for a fact that Man Bites Dog is way better. For one they are not overpriced and two they are much more tasty!

I truly can’t wait to try all their other hot dog creations like the Bottle Rocket and Hair of the Dog. I hear they have awesome specials on certain days, which I can’t find on their website, but I am sure they do. They also do catering, so feel free to hit them up for your next event as well.

Glad to have a new, delicious restaurant so close to the neighborhood. You are just a bike ride away from yummy, gourmet hot dogs!

The Beer Brat was surprisingly good. I mean, I knew it would be good, but it exceeded expectations! I appreciated the use of local Live Oak as the “beer” part of Beer Brat. I don’t suppose that pulled pork mac n cheese + sour cream comes in a low-cal version? :)

This all looks amazing! It needs to be on my Austin to-do list!
